Make Your Own Avocado Oil
16/6/2023
Avocado oil is an abundant source of oleic acid—a super healthy fat—which works amazingly to maintain your heart health. Luckily, you don’t have to spend too much to make them at home—just some overripe avocados would do just right! Here’s how:
Prepare avocado paste
Using a fork or hand masher, mash avocado into a smooth paste. Spread the paste on a paper-lined tray. Keep the layer below 1-inch thickness.
Dry the paste
Allow the avocado paste to dry naturally (away from direct sunlight) for a few days. Once the top is oxidized, re-spread into a thin layer. Do this at least 2 times a day until the paste becomes dark brown and slightly oily.
Extract avocado oil
Using a cheesecloth, scoop the avocado paste and hand-squeeze the oil into a glass container. Make sure to get every drop of oil!
Storing your avocado oil
Store the avocado oil in an air-tight glass container, away from direct heat and sunlight, or in the fridge. It’ll last for up to 3 months! Use it for cooking, salads, soups, or smoothies.
