Overripe Avocado? Don't Throw It Yet
16/6/2023
You can easily tell when an avocado has overripened or spoiled. The rind feels mushy when you touch it, the color becomes darker, and the flesh turns brown or black. If your avocados check the overripe list, don’t feel bad yet—here are five ways you can still use them:
Avocado honey face & body mask
Packed with vitamin E and many other nutrients, avocados are perfect for moisturizing your skin naturally. To make this mask, mash your avocado and add some raw honey for an antioxidant boost. This mask is perfect for those with dry and flaky skin.
Avocado egg yolk hair mask
If you have dry and brittle hair, the vitamins in the avocado will leave your hair feeling luscious and super soft! To make this mask, blend together avocado, one egg yolk, and a few drops of lavender essential oil. Apply to hair and leave for 20 minutes. Then, rinse out with shampoo and conditioner.
Avocado ice cream
An overripe avocado doesn’t always mean that it’s inedible (just make sure that they’re not extremely browned inside!). Treat yourself when you make this rich, guilt-free avocado ice cream; blend together avocado, milk, sweetener, and heavy cream. Then, freeze for 3 hours before serving.
Avocado tea
Now, what can you do with all the avocado pits? Chop them up and place them in a tea infuser. Steep with boiling water for about 3-4 mins and remove the chunks before sipping your antioxidant-rich beverage.
Regrow your avocado plant
Another way to use your avocado pits is to grow your very own avoca-baby! Clean your pit, remove its skin, and place it in a damp paper towel, then place in a closed container. When the pit cracks, remove from container and stick three toothpicks on all sides. Fill a container with water and place the pit on its lip, ensuring only the bottom part touches the water. Now, wait for it to sprout till it is grown enough to be replanted in soil!
