Food Hacks That Will Change The Way You Cook
16/6/2023
Enjoy cooking but hate spending so much time preparing a meal? Try our food hacks and useful tricks to help you satisfy your food cravings.
Hack #1: My lemons don’t produce a lot of juice.
Trick: Microwave them
Save your money by microwaving the whole lemon for 25 seconds. But be careful not to overdo it since it could dry out the flesh.
Hack #2: I want a perfect and running yolk egg
Trick: Steam them
With a few splashes of water, you can get the ideal white and runny yolk. Fry the egg in a nonstick pan until the white is almost done. Add a few drops of water, immediately cover the pan with a lid, and reduce the heat to low or turn it off entirely. Let the egg sit for a few seconds to finish cooking. You will get a perfect semi-poached egg.
Hack #3: My herbs are about to go off
Trick: Keep them in the ice cube
You can keep small hard plants like rosemary and thyme into an ice cube and freeze. When you need to use them, they’ll naturally crumble into pieces.
Hack #4: I need breadcrumbs but don’t have a food processor
Trick: Get the grater
Making your own dry breadcrumbs is as simple as grinding stale bread on a coarse-mesh grater, then sprinkling the crumbs thinly over a baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes at 140C, giving them a good shake halfway through. The golden, crispy crumbs will last in a sealed container for up to two weeks.
Hack #5: Peeling my boiled eggs is challenging
Trick: Add vinegar
Do you have trouble peeling eggs? Adding vinegar to the water while eggs are boiling will help the shell peel off more easily. Say goodbye to hard shells!
Hack #6: I need the easiest recipe for white sauce
Trick: Cream cheese
A very simple substitute is a tub of cream cheese that has been diluted to the same consistency as bechamel. Add some grated nutmeg to the dish if you wish to intensify the flavour. Use shredded cheese and crème fraîche as an alternative.
